Massachusetts Healthy Soils Action Plan:

Recommendations for Protecting Soil Function

Saturday, April 10th 2021

3:00–4:00 PM

In the spring of 2021, the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs is scheduled to release the Massachusetts Healthy Soils Action Plan (HSAP).

This plan seeks to influence existing policies and programs; guide land use planning; identify research needs; and support land managers in adopting best management practices. The speakers will discuss dynamics between land management, land cover change, and soil health in the Commonwealth. They will present how changes in land management of our natural and working lands, along with shifts in planning and construction practices, are essential for achieving statewide goals for climate change resilience. These recommendations for improving and protecting soil function also provide support to conservation and restoration efforts by emphasizing the significance of wetlands, forests, agriculture, and the built environment to both ecosystem services and carbon budgets.

Presenters:

Keith Zaltzberg-Drezdahl, Regenerative Design Group

Robert O’Connor, Director of Land and Forest Conservation with the MA Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs
